Individual Counseling
I offer counseling both in office and via virtual telehealth. This way I can cater to your preference of sessions being in-person or from the comfort of your home.
"Do I need counseling?"
The fact that you're reading this page means there is a part of you that hopes counseling could help you right now. Researching counseling resources is a significant first step. It takes a lot of courage to ask for help, and you're already demonstrating insight and self-awareness of your needs, which will benefit you as you work to feel better. It can also be daunting. You might be wondering if counseling is right for you or if you should just talk to a friend or a family member?
Any therapist will tell you how helpful it can be to have a support system you can lean on, including friends and family members you can trust. Counseling is a unique addition to that support system. It can feel easier and safer to talk to a therapist for a number of reasons: it’s confidential, the focus is 100% on you, and because a therapist is not a friend or family member, you don’t have to worry about how what you share will impact them.
To some, therapy may seem like it's “just talking,” but it’s much more than that. There is a lot of research showing the therapeutic effectiveness of having a safe, nonjudgmental, and confidential space to process what you are going through. In addition to processing your feelings and addressing your specific symptoms, I will help you identify patterns and themes underneath these symptoms that could be contributing to how you are feeling. I will gently guide you, at a pace that feels comfortable, to try new action-oriented approaches to tackle difficult situations in your life. Therapy is a lot of work; it will likely feel uncomfortable and vulnerable at times. This is where the growth and lasting change occurs.
Common Concerns I Address:
There are lots of reasons to seek out counseling, whether you have a diagnosable mental illness that is impacting your general functioning and well-being, you are struggling in your romantic relationship, you are going through a stage of life challenge that you need support in navigating, or you just haven't quite felt like yourself lately.
Some common concerns I work with include:
-
Anxiety
-
Depression
-
Perinatal mental health (infertility, reproductive loss, birth trauma, postpartum)
-
Relationship challenges with significant others, family, friends
-
Life transitions
-
Low self-esteem
-
Stress
-
Avoidance
It doesn’t matter how big or small you perceive the concern to be or how long it has been impacting you. If it's causing you pain or stress or impacting your ability to have a meaningful life and be the person you want to be deep in your heart, then it's worth addressing.
*I provide individual counseling to adults ages 18+. I do not see minors in my practice.
